The national plan presented in Rabat

The Minister of Communication, Government Spokesperson, Mustapha El Khalfi presented, on Monday in Rabat, to representatives of the written press, the national plan for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). El Khalfi emphasized, during this meeting, that this plan mainly aims to “meet Morocco's international commitments regarding the transition to digital broadcasting, to protect national sovereignty in this sector, and to accompany technological development.” The minister noted that since the official launch of DTT in 2006, the usage rate of this technology barely exceeds 5%, while digital broadcasting currently covers about 80% of the national territory. Noting that there are only two and a half years left to reach the set objectives, the minister emphasized that this technology will allow for improving the quality of television programs and minimizing production costs generated by analog broadcasting. Regarding the measures taken by his department to ensure the implementation of this plan, El Khalfi notably cited the creation of a national committee for the transition to DTT, the establishment of a calendar for the extinction of analog broadcasting, and the mobilization of significant financial resources through the creation of a fund under the 2014 Finance Act. The government will also work to support low-income families in the acquisition of DTT converters-decoders, he assured.
